'Blastoff! Beginners – 14 book series written for emergent reader in grades PreK-2. One of the features I like the best about these informative but easy reading books is that the text is written in a very engaging way that draws the young reader in by posing questions and making fun comments throughout the book. While following the traditional format of a nonfiction book, including a Table of Contents, Glossary, Index, simple charts and a Fact Surfer page for web resources, the books read almost like a story. Young children will be attracted to the full page realistic photos of animals in their natural habitat. Information is presented in simple, short sentences with new vocabulary words highlighted and shown with arrows pointing to the corresponding picture. I would highly recommend this series for both school and public libraries serving young children.
