This careful explanation of political systems covers most of the major forms of government in the world. Each title gives a historical explanation of the form of government, whether it has ancient roots or came from modern political theorists. The underlying beliefs and systems of the forms of governments and different subtypes are explained. There are modern and historical examples for each type of government. The title on Communism in this series is particularly notable, because it does not attempt to propagandize in either direction, but does explain clearly the underlying tenets of communism and how some of them are implemented in countries today. Written at a second- to third-grade level, these could support student learning even up through high school, but would do best at the middle school level. VERDICT: A solid purchase.
