Review
'Students always love checking out books about animals. Having a series that focuses on animals of a particular climate is ideal for those of us who live in a different climate. They can also be used by teachers when doing units on a particular climate or geographical area. These titles show how animals that seem similar to ones living in our climate are different because of where they live. For example, Desert Tortoises can be compared to the turtles we have locally. Similarly, Antelope Jackrabbits can be compared to the rabbits we see in our area. This series is part of the “Blastoff! Readers” collection at a level two. The ratio of text to pictures is perfect for lower to mid-level elementary students learning how to read bigger words.I love how the titles in this series use simple sentences, bolded vocabulary words, and detailed color images pointing out the animal features discussed on the page. The glossary, further resources page, and index are also excellent features to help students learn how to find more explanation, information, and where a subject is discussed in the book.', Angie Nagle, Underwood Public School, Underwood, ND
