Review
'Visually pleasing, with info-graphs, times lines and rich with statistics, this book aims to please 2nd graders on up to middle school. The sentences, vocabulary and content should read fluently with 2nd-4th graders and with ease for older students. There is still enough content to hold the attention of our later group of readers. Information about famous players is in the sidebar, maps including the hometown of the team, and an opportunity to use and interpret different info-graphs, along with amazing clear, colorful highlight pictures from games. I recommend this book for your sports series on football.', Annette McQueen, South Sound Book Review Council, Washington,'This intriguing nonfiction series about each NFL team will attract football fans of all ages, both new and veteran! Simple text, striking photographs, and interesting factual information will particularly engage young readers! The structure of the book and the nonfiction text features are well-played throughout the entire book! Everything from Super Bowl appearances to the history of the team to specific players to basic facts about the team are all covered! The balance of words and photographs are on point! According to one of my students, “These books are just right for words and pictures.” Another student stated, “There were enough words for young kids to be able to read the book and not get overwhelmed with it.” While the opening about Super Bowl appearance(s) does hook the reader, there could be improvement on how it is written. As one student stated, “I found it jumped right into it saying, ‘The Packers are playing the Steelers in the Super Bowl.’ ” The student suggests, “Go into it such as, ‘On the sunny day of (insert specific date), the Packers…,’ or ‘The Packers raced to the other side of the field (let's say winning), winning the game, and taking the cheers, leaving the Steelers in the dust.’ ” This series is a great opportunity for young readers to share with their family and friends as it sparks delightful conversations and nurtures positive relationships! This series will especially boost the confidence of emerging readers! One student believes, “This book would capture a younger audience to read it, considering it being smaller (amount of information) and easier to read to help build up reading habits.” This nonfiction picture book series about each NFL team is a 10 out of 10 stars! As a Teacher Librarian who is passionate about finding the right books for students, this particular series is one I would be eager to get into the hands of young readers!', Sarah Staudt, District PreK-12 Teacher Librarian, Educator Review
