With less than a dozen words per page in simple sentences, the content is perfect for preschool and early elementary children. Bullfrog books uses large up-close photos to support the text. The Table of Contents is limited to the five sections of each book – the body of the book and the four endpaper sections; Parts of the animal, Picture Glossary, Index, and Learn More. The square shape of the book is easy for young hands to enjoy independently. Each volume shines a spotlight on a well-known marsupial. This reviewer had the opportunity to examine the volumes on Opossums and Tasmanian Devils. Each volume uses simple text to share key information about the animal, including location, habitat, diet, and how they raise their young. The animal’s pouch (a key characteristic of marsupials) is also identified. The text is accompanied by high-quality photographs that will draw readers into the world of marsupials. Each volume also features a picture glossary, labeled diagram identifying parts of the animal, index, links to relevant websites, and reading ideas for parents/teachers. THOUGHTS: The high quality photos and simple, yet informative text are sure to make this six volume set appealing to primary aged readers. A worthwhile addition for libraries looking to expand (or refresh) their animal collections. Recommended.
