ReviewedAll in Fall introduces early readers to all things fall! They will read and see the changes in weather we, plants, and animals experience, as well as fun ways to celebrate with holidays and fun fall activities. Bright, inviting photos and clear text introduce these relatable topics. Each title includes reading tips for teachers and caregivers, a table of contents, picture glossary, and index to aid comprehension, and step-by-step, hands-on cooking, crafting, and role-playing activities bring fall fun to life!
Children will fall right into this colorful series that discusses some features and events related to autumn. Each brief book opens with suggestions for grownups on how to share the book with young readers. The prose is very simple, with possibly challenging vocabulary set in boldfaced type, and later defined in the glossary. Concepts are clearly explained through text and photos. Some titles are especially valuable: Animals in Fall includes several creatures that children may be unfamiliar with; Back to School is particularly relatable; Plants in Fall presents concepts in easy-to-comprehend ways; and some volumes compare fall and summer temperatures in ways that students will find easy to grasp. Unsurprisingly, this series features vivid images, with autumn ablaze on eye-catching covers, on the title and table of contents pages, and in high-quality color photos throughout. Some text is set against colorful backgrounds. Where people are included, photos reflect diversity in race, age, and ability; a child is depicted using a wheelchair and a boy with Down syndrome is shown on a book’s cover. Additionally, the holidays volume reflects some cultural diversity in its coverage of various holidays and festivals. Each title concludes with a game, craft, or recipe featuring clear directions. Most will be impractical in library settings, but may work at home. VERDICT: A colorful, accessible, and informative series that brings fall to vivid life. These will be a hit in school libraries and early learning sections in public libraries.
