ReviewedMath is everywhere! From graphs in classrooms to shapes on playgrounds, we can find math concepts all around. This series for emerging readers introduces basic math concepts through everyday places and things. In addition to leveled text and bright photos, each title includes a special feature that illustrates the math concept and a question that invites readers to apply what they have learned.
Bright photographs show people using math skills in various situations in this series. Concise text explains topics, like what a fraction or a graph is, then offers examples from everyday life, such as measuring for a recipe or counting money for a purchase. Sidebars identify different types of graphs or geometric shapes. Math tools, including stopwatches, rulers, and compasses, are also introduced. Questions posed in the text ask readers to determine if the narrator has enough cash to purchase an ice cream cone or use a graph to see which season received the most votes as favorite. Terms in bold print are defined in the glossary at the end of the book. VERDICT: A useful set to kick off math units in the primary grades.
