Ultimate Speed
At last a set of books that will excite the extreme-action seeking young male reader. These fact-packed nonfiction texts are written as fast-paced, high-interest stories of real-life adventures. Each two-page spread contains high-impact photographic images, less than 100 words, and a fact box. Every book in the series includes a glossary, list of internet sites, bibliographical references, and an index to enhance further research. The history of each mode of transportation (rockets, motorcycles, boats, cars, trains, and planes) reveals how humans continually attempt to improve and speed up their inventions. The reader comes to understand the innovations, mechanics, and engineering involved in developing these super vehicles through the labeled diagrams and color photographs. The reader comes to appreciate the accomplishments of some of the pioneers of ultimate speed, such as Chuck Yeager, “Big Daddy” Don Garlits, Ken Warby, Sam Wheeler, and John Glenn by reading their stories. A series such as this fills a void and very likely will encourage boys, and girls, to read more. Recommended.
