HorrorScapes
The dramatic photos and illustrations in this series grab the reader’s interest immediately. The text is written as a high interest story and includes fact boxes, making the books attractive to reluctant readers. Each book starts with the history of an actual person and describes the role he or she played in the horror and then explains what actually happened. Readers will discover voodoo celebrations, Prince Vlad Dracula, hauntings on Alcatraz Island, King Tut’s tomb, and the hanging of accused witches in Salem. Each book explains why it happened and gives enough middle grade appropriate, gory, and creepy details to keep the reader engrossed. A “Then and Now” section in each book compares photos of the historical locations and photos of present day life. Bibliography. Glossary. Websites. Index. Recommended.
