Librarian Review of Awesome Dogs
The Awesome Dogs series features a different breed of dog, including adorable photos and bright infographics. Each title describes the physical features, characteristics, and history of each dog breed. The books include short sentences and understandable text that is perfect for beginning readers. Maltese highlights the importance of the dogs throughout history, as the Egyptians thought they could cure sickness. In Miniature Schnauzers, readers will learn that German farmers needed smaller dogs to catch pests, so minis were bred from standard schnauzers. Shiba Inus reveals that some shibas have red fur, but they can also have sesame, cream, black, or tan fur. In Vizslas, the text notes that vizslas are often nicknamed “Velcro vizslas” because they love being near people. Each book includes bolded words along with a glossary and more resources to help readers better understand each unique and loveable dog breed. This informative, well-organized series would be an amazing resource for any library, especially for anyone that loves dogs.
