Booklist Advance Review Mindful Music and Dancing

This resource-filled guide, part of the Art of Mindfulness series (4 titles), lets kids explore SEL
through music and dance. The book opens with a preface for caregivers, which includes before and
after-reading prompts as well as an SEL goal for the adult to help their reader achieve.

With chapters on “Music and Mindfulness,” “Find Your Rhythm,” and “Dance to Tune In,” the text
offers easy-to-implement practices, such as concentrating on a song’s rhythm to get focused and
using music and dance to express emotions.

Uncluttered spreads use a combination of colorful backgrounds, clear writing, and full-page photos of racially diverse kids grooving to their own beats and engaging in mindfulness exercises. Encouraging “Hints” are also scattered throughout. A “Goals and Tools” activity section rounds out this useful title.
